AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH
AIT is Austria's largest contract-oriented, non-university research organization of European format and focuses on the key infrastructure issues of the future. AIT works in close collaboration with industry, customers from public institutions, universities, international and national research partners as a highly specialized R&D partner, striving to provide added value through innovation, new technologies, new methods and tools, which comply with the institute's motto "Tomorrow Today".
The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, Austria's largest non-university research institute, is among the European research institutes a specialist in the key infrastructure issues of the future. The Digital Safety & Security Department is developing cutting-edge information and communication technologies (ICT) designed to ensure safe and reliable operation of critical infrastructures.
In the research area Highly Reliable Software and Systems, the Department focuses on the development of new software standards, methods, tools, and process approaches for the verification and validation of highly reliable, safe and secure software and systems, with a special focus on industrial and autonomous systems. The core competences of the area are design, development, integration, verification & validation (V&V) and certification support of reliable, safe and secure systems. With these activities the AIT has earned an excellent reputation in the field of safety and security research internationally. The industrialization of new technologies in this area is supported by a variety of international activities - through strategic partnerships with leading automotive suppliers, participations in competence centers and the integration of technologies in projects of European platforms such as ECSEL, the European technology and research platform for supporting the European industry to strengthen its leading role in the field of embedded systems.

Role
AIT is leading WP1: “CPPS - Cyber Physical Production Systems in semiconductor eco-system”, focusing on safety, security and reliability of future semiconductor production systems. Contributions include novel approaches for the safe, secure and reliable integration of legacy systems, testing of security protocols, simulation of security threats and effects on system reliability and novel incident detection systems. Combined with the contributions of other WP1 partners this will enable a secure, safe and reliable integration and communication and enable balancing of system security and production flexibility.
Key contribution
AIT will develop a simulation environment for industrial networks, based on DTFSim which supports the identification of requirements for the secure and dependable interconnection of existing systems. This will be supported by dependability aware security analysis with the FMVEA tool which will be extended a toolset for static and dynamic model-based co-analysis.AIT will support the generation of the secure data communication and authentication framework with model based testing targeting safety and security properties, behavioral correctness and performance/scalability. Test case generation will be done automatically by MoMuT, based on sequence diagrams and test models built from descriptions of the security protocols. Secure systems require constant oversight and control. AITs AECID anomaly detection technique keeps track of system events, their dependencies and occurrences, to learn the “normal” system behavior over time and reports all actions that differ from a dynamically created system model.AIT is a long term member in multiple standardisation groups and will use this to support the adoption of SemI40 project results in relevant industries.
